Centrality of Student’s Wellbeing

  • Schools must promote and nurture student’s wellbeing through their practices. environment, curriculum, policies and partnerships.
  • School leaders’ and teachers’ wellbeing is also important to allow for a safe and healthy learning environment for students, promotion of student wellbeing and positive student outcomes.

Sample interview questions for teachers focusing on the centrality of students’ wellbeing:

  1. Understanding Wellbeing:
    • Can you describe what student wellbeing means to you and why it is important in the educational environment?
    • How do you define a holistic approach to student wellbeing, and how do you implement it in your classroom?
  2. Strategies and Practices:
    • What specific strategies or practices do you use to promote and support the mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of your students?
    • Can you give an example of a time when you successfully addressed a student’s wellbeing concern? What steps did you take, and what was the outcome?
  3. Building Relationships:
    • How do you build and maintain positive relationships with your students to ensure they feel safe and supported?
    • In what ways do you engage with parents and guardians to support the wellbeing of your students?
  4. Challenges and Solutions:
    • What are some common challenges you face when trying to prioritise student wellbeing, and how do you overcome them?
    • How do you balance academic expectations with the need to focus on students’ wellbeing?
  5. Professional Development:
    • How do you stay informed about the best practices and new developments in promoting student wellbeing?
    • What kind of training or professional development have you found most valuable in enhancing your ability to support student wellbeing?
  6. Inclusive Practices:
    • How do you ensure that your approach to student wellbeing is inclusive and equitable for all students, regardless of their background or individual needs?
    • Can you discuss a time when you had to adapt your wellbeing practices to better support a diverse classroom?
  7. Evaluation and Feedback:
    • How do you measure the effectiveness of your wellbeing initiatives in the classroom?
    • What feedback have you received from students about your efforts to support their wellbeing, and how have you used this feedback to improve your practices?

These questions aim to delve deeper into how teachers understand, prioritise, and implement strategies to support the holistic wellbeing of their students, providing a comprehensive view of their approach to nurturing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
